So at the start of doom 2016 we get freed from the cursed sarcophagus which the slayer had been trapped in for a few eons (1 eon being 1 billion years). So when he was freed from the tomb he would have serious muscle atrophy which is when muscle are inactive for too long and waste away. This usually happens when people are in a coma. Since doom giy was in a coma like state for billions of years he may have experienced this. Even in this state, he was able to break free of the chains and crush a demons skull without trouble.

This leads to my idea for eternal. 2 years have passed since doom 2016 so his muscles would have recovered by then. Since he has regained his muscle mass, his arms are literally to big to fit into the enclosed armour and it needed to be modified to accommodate for his swollness.

But thats just a theory.
