On this delay sitation (Long post)

I've seen people compare this to Duke Nukem Forever and i feel like they've forgot why that game went the way it did.

3D Realms had a bad management (That even led to Prey's dev Hell too, if you look into that game, if i'm not mistaken) and whenever a new game with the "biggest engine at the time" came out, George Broussard would make his team restart the game just because of the engine and technical aspects, while they kept doing this until Gearbox came around in the last years of the development and "helped" at "finishing" the game.

And the references and jokes feeling outdated or awkward have to do with the different time periods this game went through and some of the problems with Duke's personality led to some theory i've seen that in the base game, Duke is a clone while the real Duke was in the DLC (And if i recall, Gearbox wanted to cut parts from the main game, then turn them in DLC).

And Eternal seems to have a stronger direction, that the art direction and even world building/lore are part of the marketing (Which seems weird for a Doom game but still) and they'll obviously keep the game engine.

And id Software probably have already been in development Hell a few times, with a relevant case being the cancelled Doom 4, which was cancelled and turned into Doom 2016.

And you know how people bring up Arachnotrons not screaming in a glory kill or some enemies not bleeding in GK's?

Some people complained that, during the E3 presentation of Doom 2016, it looked too brown and yellow, so the final release retouched the game's colors a bit to make it look better.

I believe the main reason could be about the game's technology considering:

    • The original release date including every port and version, like Switch and Stadia.

    • Invasion.

    • The destructible demons gore system and having to keep up with living, animated enemies loosing bits and chunks of their models.

    • The graphical detail and the art style having a lot of details and "noise" for the designs (Graphics could always be the main reason for a game having a big filesize, specially if you believe the theory that companies go for bigger filesizes for the sake of competition).

    • The possible amount of content.

I've seen people bring up microtransactions and how latest Bethesda published/developed games go from awful to boring but i feel like Eternal is the one whose devs want to see it succeed and i believe Bethesda would want this game to save them, so hopefully they don't interfere.

Some also bring up it being released among other big games (Like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Cyberpunk 2077) but that's something to be naturally expected and some of them might as well be for different audiences, while Eternal is expected to release in a few more platforms and is a game a lot of people expect to be good and are excited for (Even at the cost of some people being brand loyality consumer type fans that would defend the game if something terrible did happen because other fans would at least acknowledge flaws and have standards).

Like, at least you can replay (Or even play for the first time if you're new) most previous Doom games (Or all if you manage to find the mobile titles somewhere and some obscure ports) and you could try a lot of good mods and wad related content to keep you busy, like https://old.reddit.com/r/Doom/comments/cezqa4/mods_to_play_before_doom_eternal/ (Speaking of mods, the fact this game releases in March means modders have enough time to make stuff inspired by Eternal).

Also, i think March 20th is also when the art book comes out.

In a different topic, what if secret collectibles in Doom games were based off real/existing Doom merchandise?

Like the Pewter/Reaper figurines or this one Doom snowboard with an unique piece of artwork https://static.doomworld.com/monthly_2019_10/doomsnowboard.jpg.77ebf90835c1c0d30d02180332e70447.jpg

Anyway, i personally think the game looks good so far, with one of some minor bits i dislike being the gameplay of the Pain Elemental.

Even though this post is mostly opinions and all, there may be something factually wrong, so let me know.

What is the mancubus saying (if anything) when it attacks.)

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 06:57 PM PDT

The original version of them (from Doom 2) sounds like they are saying "hungry maw" or something when they attack. Are they saying anything or does it just happen to sound like speech?

About to beat Doom 1 on Ultra-Violence for the first time, Doom 2 next?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 12:17 PM PDT

I used to play shitty flash ports of the first level of Doom and have put quite a few hours into the series but this is the first time I have completed the entire game on the highest difficulty. Thy Flesh Consumed is BRUTAL, especially Perfect Hatred, but it's a great level. I've been having a blast and I originally planned on trying to fly through Doom 2 on the highest difficulty and then playing brutal doom (which I love the level design of).

I've heard some flak towards Doom 2's campaign and level design, is it worth it? Or should I perhaps skip it? I'll probably give it a shot regardless. And on top of that, are there any ESSENTIAL wads for somebody who has never really dipped their feet into them? I love good level design.
