    Let's try to contain the excitement for Doomguy in smash to one thread, please? We go through this every time Smash rumors start popping up and it gets really really spamy and annoying.

    So this thread is for if it happens. I say if because there's zero guarantee remotely any character to begin with is being made a fighter.

    If it does happen, let the subreddit explode in excitement and what not (Rule 1 news worthy clause).

    Edit: In the dark? Nintendo announced today that a new fighter will be announced at The Game Awards (December 10th).

    Because today's Doom's franchise anniversary (Happy 27 years Slayers), Doom Eternal just released on switch, people believe the stars have aligned and this is a sure sign that our buddy Doomguy is being added.

    Just like how the stars aligned for Steve, Joker, Piranha Plant, Grinch Leak, Terry /s

    Edit2: Yes, I'll be watching the awards tonight and will have my finger on the removal button if it happens. I'm not saying it won't happen, I'm just not holding my breath and keeping expectations reasonable.

    Not just a defining game, but an evolution for the FPS genre got snubbed at the game awards. We knew what would win the GOTY, but Doom didn't even win best action game. Now I have played Hades , it's great. But it is nowhere near as good as Doom, where action defines the whole game.

    Doom is the most video game like entry in that list of nominees. It knows what it is and doesn't pretend to be anything else. And that's why we lost today. The community would rather give an award to a game with recycled gameplay and a story that divided the whole fanbase.

    I am glad, we have this cult following for Doom. Remember, all these other games are temporary. But Doom, Doom is ETERNAL!

    Today may not have been a victory for you guys, but I just want to say that Eternal is my definitive GOTY, and one of the best games I've played in years. I have never come across a more high octane, replayable, and enjoyable game in my entire life and you guys nailed it.

    You did everything you set out to do, make a good game, and improve upon the last. I have also never met an action game that has challenged me to think as critically as this one has either. I've played over 200 hours of just the campaign alone, because the combat loop is just that good.

    So to all the people at ID, cheers and thank you, you're all awesome.

    Doom didnt even win best action game?? How. I gotta feeling people who host these games journo jerk off fest purposely didnt give them any awards over the "demon is an offensive term" joke. The entire award show was sjw cringe bullshit. Orrr did gamers just really not enjoy doom this year?

    I don't know if it's because we didn't vote enough, or if this shit is rigged, but how did Doom Eternal not win a single award? How did we lose best score to a half baked potato that we won't get to finish for the next five years (FF7), and best sound design to a bad indie film masquerading as a game (TLOU2)? How did we lose best action/adventure to Hades? At least GOTY was a helluva toss up between Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing, but that got robbed hard.

    Was it the VGA trying to go for wokeness and progressiveness? Are people still mad about the mortally challenged joke? Or is it really about Doom Eternal not having enough community support?

    I'm not even mad, I'm just dumbfounded. I can't wrap my head around it.

    Players choice clearly showed the disconnect between woke journalists who can't even complete hell on earth on too young to die and people who actually play games. Doom won my game of the year in music and best action game but at least our boi GoT took art direction. If it ain't woke, they don't vote
