    The manliest aspect of Doomguy

    I think the manliest part of Doomguy/Doomslayers character is the fact that despite the nightmarish things he's been through, he's still a kind person who genuinely wants to help.

    My favorite example of this is near the end of Doom 2016, right before you destroy Vegas core the Slayer hesitates before making a copy of Vega and talking it. This reallly stood out to me because most people assume that Vega is just a heartless AI, but the reality is he has emotions and can think freely (in that same level he tells Hayden that he has many regrets). The Slayer kills demons without mercy but killing an innocent person is not what he does, so him hesitating before making that choice really had an impact on me

    Another good example is in the original doom games. Doomguy was a us soldier who was sent to mars after assaulting his commanding officer. Why? Because his commanding officer told him to fire upon innocent civilians. Him refusing to do so is what led him to be sent to the Mars UAC facility, which is where the entire franchise starts. He reminds me of Kenshiro, who's also a kind person despite the nightmarish shit he's been through
