G'day Slayers

Today we'd like to talk to you about a couple of things.

Survey Results and Meme Sunday™

As you may remember, we made a thread about a month ago asking for feedback on a Meme Guideline. This also included a google form which people filled out and gave comments too.

The survey had a total of 192 responses. This breaks down into:

137 (71.4%) YES
49 (25.5%) NO
6 (3.1%) UNDECIDED

A lot of people who left a comment are in favour of the Meme Guideline which is great, tells we really hit the nail on the head. It's also apparent that people are also in favour of having a Meme day. This is something we have discussed internally and it works really well for other subreddits so It's something we'll adopt going forward and see where we go from there.

There were also a few responses that touched on the matter of letting the upvotes decide what content stays up. While this might be a good idea, in practice it could see the front page be flooded with memes, thus drowning out more interesting content like artwork, discussion threads and video content.

So on March 8th at 00:00 CST(You can check your timezone here) We will have our very first Meme Sunday™.

During Meme Sunday™, Rule 1 will be laxed so go wild when it comes to memes. Outside of Meme Sunday™ the Meme Guideline will be full in effect. Keep in mind that during Meme Sunday™ all posts are still subject to all other rules of the subreddit.

This Isn't to say all memes will be banned, but we will be more lenient with the guideline during meme day. The first couple of Meme Sundays™ are going to be a test run, to see if anything needs adjusting.

Animal Crossing x Doom Eternal crossover

So if you haven't heard already, Doom Eternal shares a release date with Animal Crossing: New Horizons and this has caused both of our communities to sort of merge together. For the most part it's been fun and we even had a crossover day on the Official Doom Discord server and the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Discord server where each server shared an invite link for the other server. While this has been fun and generally well received on Discord the same can't be said here.

From the start it was obvious that a lot of you were enjoying the Animal Crossing x Doom Eternal posts as the most upvoted post on the Subreddit is now a crossover post and the mod team have certainly being enjoying them too which Is why we've been letting the posts stay up. We do acknowledge that there has been a dividing opinion on the subreddit with the flood of these posts, however as the mod team stands, we are not concerned of this becoming an Animal Crossing subreddit, as some more negative people have cried about. The mod team has seen some of the most original content being posted to this sub in a long time, and we're not ones to gate keep honest effort. It's a fad that will pass with time, and the sub will stay a Doom sub. Isabelle will join the ranks of Doot by the end of this.

Closing Statement

We're always open to criticism and we pride ourselves in having an open forum for anyone to voice their concerns so if you need to bring anything to our attention or feel there's something we could be doing better, then you're more than welcome to make a thread or contact us via Modmail to let us know. Just remember to keep our rules in mind and be polite, we're only human.

I'll also be sticking around for a bit to answer some questions.

Let's also talk about flairs on /r/Doom

We're fucking up, let's fix that. Action now is what you guys want.

Starting off: We're still not banning content featuring Animal Crossing. This decision is final.

HOWEVER

We're going to fix our flairs and start enforcing them better. The first step to aiding with this is we've added a """rule""" thingy that let's you report threads to us that are not flaired correctly. This isn't a strict rule that we will force, having a post removed because it has the wrong flair is kind of silly (with one exception). For the sake of brevity, here's how we would like everyone to start using our flairs:

Fan Creation

This is for any fan content that isn't strictly about a specific game, but is primarily Doom focused.

Crossover

For content that has Doom in it, but isn't primarily Doom focused. If Doomguy is added to smash, this will be the respective flair. This is also where AC stuff should be flaired as well.

Meme Sunday

For memes, that obviously, are meant to be posted on our Sunday Meme day. This is the only incorrect flair that can get your post removed for failing to use it properly.

Classic, Doom 3, 2016, and Eternal

These posts must be for content that's specifically about the games themselves. Gameplay, news, criticisms, reviews, video essays.

Fluff and Other

For content that for doesn't quite fit any of the above categories. Memes that aren't for Sunday should be posted here.

And yes, we're working on flair filters for old reddit. CSS sucks so this thread will be edited when we believe we have working filters. Users of New Reddit or the official Reddit app can manually set filters, or so I'm told.
