Can you get pre-order bonuses from pre-ordering a physical copy? How does that even work?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:18 PM PST

Is it guaranteed you get the pre order bonuses when you buy a disk? Is there a system for Bethesda to know that disk is ordered, and download the bonuses on there? ( I just want to know if I can trust a physical copy to give me those sweet cosmetics and challenge maps.)

How do I change my Birth Date in the Slayers Club?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:20 AM PST

Born in 1999, but it entered it as 2099 (which it shouldn't be allowed to do by the way) and now I can't access any of the content. Can I change this, or am I stuck? I tried making a new account, but that didn't work.

Thinking about how Doom is still seen as "gameplay first" and how the games are discussed nowadays (Long)

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 04:17 PM PST

Sometimes, when i look at how people feel about Doom Eternal, some discussion, from both the excitement and disappointment and most opinions overall, seems to sort of have a different take on gameplay.

Something that feels like a difference between newer and older fans or may be an effect of Doom being relevant again for mainstream audiences.

When Doom 2016 was announced and during its release, there was a variety of opinions and thoughts from the fanbase.

From fans not liking the idea of glory kills and double jumping to others liking it to the point we've had a lot of these "mix up" mods between classic and new Doom (And even beyond) that experiment with the mechanics.

And this is because Doom is associated with gameplay, not just because it's a video game or because of that one John Carmack story bit but also because Doom's core gameplay is solid (Even if not perfect) and is an improvement to the likes of Wolfenstein 3D.

But sometimes, some stuff i see in terms of discussing the game is like this:

    • The positive stuff revolves around certain jokes (Doot, stuff about Doomguy's strenght), people saying they were more hyped for the sountrack (Nothing against Mick Gordon's works) or heavy lore discussion.

    • And the negative stuff is about the HUD (Which already seems to being worked on), stuff that could be just a matter of taste (Like some designs) or things like microtransactions (Which are bad but besides it not being confirmed yet, a lot of this sounds like it came from someone that took a while to get informed in this while everyone else was already aware of it).

But gameplay talk feels a bit basic and barely about the design or execution of some ideas.

Like, someone liking that they're attempting to make levels feel more diverse and not just by looks (Talking about that one E3 clip with the radsuit) or worrying about the enemy types and their movesets (Pain Elemental as an example, since he looks like he takes a while to attack).

Either id is doing a really good job with the gameplay (Which is something i believe except for maybe armor being a second health bar) or some people just don't see it as something that is "discussion worthy".

It feels a bit of a contrast to how people used to view Doom, by associating it with game design and seeing it as a list of ideas that make for a good game and even a reason why it's timeless.

It makes me wonder if it's a case of new fans coming from different eras with different design ideas about videogames and sometimes, this leads to why someone who grew with Halo or COD ends up liking the new Doom.

I don't want to make it seem like i'm supporting elitism or gatekeeping (Because that's bad and i'm extremely far from being an expert and there's a lot of people that know better than me that i'd look like a basic idiot in comparison), this is just something i notice.

And it's also because Doom's fanbase is seen as special enough to keep Doom "Eternal".

Although, another possible difference between these generations of fans is who's behind source ports, wikis, wads, mods, certain sites, experiments with code and who may or may not have to be the ones to carry the torch once the old generation is gone.

Then again, some of this stuff i'm bringing up is more often seen here and a lot more different in a place like Doomworld, kind of?

Or it could be a case of Doom already having different versions, art directions and ports, along with source ports themselves and even Brutal Doom influencing this.

One thing i hope to not see in Doom fans is corporate brand loyality behavior where someone acts like an unpaid advertiser, though.

Because a fanbase is more interesting when people just create content and have interesting talks about the games than acting like it's their job to "defend the brand", specially when this type of mentallity is more likely to be seen on someone that doesn't even interact with a series that much.

Maybe this could be a reason why i'm not signed for Slayer's Club?

Like i just go there to check articles of news and if there's new screenshots or concept art, while someone else talks about their experiences there or about the new stuff they recieved and sometimes it's interesting to hear.

But a lot of the Top 5 lists they make feel a bit randomly made and some of the trivia stuff isn't always that well researched (Because i'm pretty sure the classic Spider Mastermind's model is different since the original face was destroyed and has been replaced).

I also think it's lame how that one Quakecon Q&A thread only allowed questions from users of the site so i hope that doesn't happen again.

This post is long enough, i probably have a few grammar/text errors but i hope the message isn't affected by that.

wanting to Understand the rules before posting

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:10 AM PST

    Hey,
am just wanting to know, so I don't unknowingly get banned, what is acceptable when it comes to posting pictures and/or Screenshots specifically regarding to original doom, Doom 3 the recent Doom games and Doom Mods, is there a topic/subject matter that I need to know of and make apparent with the pictures (and also Video clips), before I post them?

    thanks
